Vaping Safety Guide – How Long Can E-juice Last?

Vaping has gained a lot of popularity over the last few years. Mostly, because it’s healthier (it doesn’t mean that it is 100% healthy though). It also doesn’t produce the terrible smell that cigarettes do. How do they do that? Well, it’s because of e-liquid, or e-juice if you prefer.
When it comes to e-juice, one of the most popular questions is – which is the best? Each person will probably give you their own opinion on that, and it might get confusing, especially if you are new to vaping. However, you can look for help on the internet. Websites like Ecigclick offer you multiple reviews, and sometimes, they even have a separate section for beginners with products especially fit for them.
Another question that is worth mentioning is – does e-juice expire? The answer to that is YES, it does. Since e-juices contain food ingredients, they can go bad. However, there are some things that you can do to make it last longer.
So without further ado, let’s get to it!

Signs That Your E-juice Has Expired

Signs That Your E-juice Has Expired
Even though there is no official expiration date of the e-juice, it usually goes bad after 1 or 2 years. It’s because the main ingredients of it – nicotine, PG, and VG – have an established expiration time for two years. However, some e-liquids can go bad earlier, so you need to know how to recognize a vape juice that went bad.

Your E-juice Might Be Expired If

  • It changed colors significantly – the change in color will be very noticeable. Mind you, it is normal for e-liquids to change colors only slightly.
  • It has sediment on the bottom – if you shake the bottle, it will not blend with the rest of the content. If it does – the liquid is fine to vape.
  • Smells differently – it will smell in a different way than usual.

How Can You Make It Last Longer?

The key to having your e-liquid lasting longer is correct storage, especially since buying new bottles, in the long run, can get very expensive. Three things affect your e-juices the most; they are your enemies – heat, light, and air. So how can you avoid them and make your vape juice last longer?
The first thing you can do is choosing bottles made out of tinted glass. Or, if you buy e-liquids in plastic containers, consider pouring them into these bottles. It will reduce the amount of sunlight and heat that reaches the liquid itself.
Also, the best place to keep them is a fridge, as e-liquids need to be held in a cold, dark, and dry place. If by any case, you don’t have a refrigerator in your apartment, you can always put them in a medicine cabinet, or a basement. The reason for that is simple – at a low temperature, it is less likely for chemical processes like oxidation to happen. It also stops the bacteria.
Even though the air is essential for humans, it is also one of the reasons that e-liquids expire. When air reacts with nicotine, it produces something called cotinine. If you use e-liquids because of the nicotine that is inside of it, you might notice the loss of it. It is almost impossible to prevent all the air from interacting with your e-juice. However, if you seal the bottles before putting them away to store them, you might be able to keep most of the oxygen out of it.
As it was already mentioned, e-liquids don’t have an established expiration date. In this case, what you can do is keeping track of your purchases and labeling every bottle that you buy with the purchase date. After some time you will probably forget when you bought one of the bottles, and it might result in either you vaping e-juices that are not so good anymore, or in throwing away good ones because you are not sure when you bought it.

Vaping is very popular nowadays, but in the long run, it can get pretty expensive, especially if you like to try new flavors of e-liquids every now and then. That’s why it’s essential to keep them fresh as long as possible. Since they don’t have any expiration date, it is in your hands to decide whether the e-juice is still good to vape.
A few things might indicate that the place that your e-liquid belongs to is the trash can and not your vape pen. There are also some things that you can do to prolong their life. The ones mentioned above are just a few. For more, you can check the internet, as it is full of ideas.
